THE CORRIGAN METHOD

A structured method for English you can actually use.

Clear goals, purposeful practice, targeted feedback and continuity — designed to turn knowledge into confident communication.

Clear goalsA defined direction from the start.
Active practiceLanguage is retrieved and used, not only explained.
Targeted feedbackCorrection focused on patterns that matter.
ContinuityEach lesson builds on the previous one.
Why the method exists

Knowing English and being able to use it are not the same thing.

Many learners understand grammar, recognise vocabulary and perform well in controlled exercises, yet struggle to access the same English spontaneously in conversation, presentations, interviews or exams. The Corrigan Method is designed to close that gap.

Behind the method

Built from teaching, international experience and psychology.

Massimo SpinellaFounder · MSc Psychology · BA · CELTA

Massimo founded Corrigan School of English after an academic and professional path developed largely in English-speaking environments. His CELTA teacher training and Master’s degree in Psychology helped shape an approach that looks not only at what learners study, but at how language is remembered, retrieved and used under pressure.

The goal is practical: turn language knowledge into a skill that is more accessible, stable and genuinely usable.

What defines the method

Structure without rigidity. Personalisation without losing direction.

01

Clear direction

Every pathway begins with a defined objective and a realistic route towards it.

02

Context first

Language is connected to the situations where you genuinely need to use it.

03

Active retrieval

Learners move quickly from explanation to recall, production and application.

04

Targeted feedback

Correction focuses on recurring patterns that limit clarity, accuracy or naturalness.

05

Continuity

Each lesson builds on previous work instead of starting again from zero.

06

Visible progress

Development is tracked through communication performance, not lesson count alone.

The learning cycle

A repeatable process that turns input into usable skill.

01

Define

Clarify the goal, current level and priority communication situations.

02

Build

Select the language, strategies and practice needed for that objective.

03

Apply

Use the language actively through speaking, listening, writing and realistic tasks.

04

Review

Analyse errors, consolidate what matters and decide the next step.

Inside a Corrigan lesson

Every activity has a reason to be there.

Lessons are structured enough to create momentum, but flexible enough to respond to the learner in front of us.

Psychology-informed learning

Better learning is not only about better explanations.

Attention, memory, motivation, habit formation and performance under pressure affect how well language can be retrieved and used. The method applies these principles practically through manageable goals, spaced review, active recall, repeated retrieval and gradual exposure to more demanding communication.

Language teaching informed by psychology — not therapy.

Psychological principles are used to improve learning design and performance. They are not used to diagnose or treat learners.

Feedback & progress

Progress should become visible in the way you communicate.

✓
Greater fluencyLess effort spent searching for language you already know.
✓
Greater accuracyRecurring errors are identified and worked on systematically.
✓
Faster retrievalUseful language becomes easier to access under time pressure.
✓
More confidenceConfidence grows from repeated successful performance, not encouragement alone.
Where the method is applied

One method, adapted to different objectives.

General English

Build stronger everyday communication across CEFR levels.

Exam preparation

Combine language development with exam strategy and mock practice.

Business & Corporate English

Focus on meetings, presentations, writing and professional communication.

Academic & career goals

Prepare for university, interviews, applications and international contexts.

Professional standards

No shortcuts. No unrealistic promises.

Language development depends on starting level, consistency, exposure and the complexity of the target. Corrigan School aims to be transparent about what can realistically be achieved, what needs more time and where focused work will have the greatest impact.
